HOËRSKOOL OVERBERG HIGH SCHOOL
BRIEF 4 AAN DIE OUERS
4th LETTER TO THE PARENTS
6 MEI / MAY 2020

Geagte Ouers / Dear Parents

GENESIS 41:51 – THERE IN THE TOUGH TIMES
‘God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.’
These are Joseph’s words after the birth of his eldest son. If there is anyone in
history who should be allowed to complain, it is definitely Joseph. First sold by his
own brothers as a slave, then thrown in jail for how many years, even though he
was innocent. During this time, he could easily have asked where God was. But
as time goes by, we see how God reveals His perfect plan. From a jail bird, Joseph
goes on to rule the land. We can see how God first put everything in place in
order to care for His people – even if it only became evident years later.
Maybe it is a good idea to think about Joseph’s life when we want to complain
and ask where God is, when we think that He doesn’t care. In those times when
we think it is not going well with us, think about Joseph. And remember that you
are also part of God’s Master Plan. Maybe He is busy getting you into position to
play your perfect and important role.
(Andries Enslin: The heart of the Father)

Daar kom so ‘n warm gevoel van trots, respek en dankbaarheid in my hart
wanneer ek aan die Ovie-personeel dink. Ek het in my lewe nog nooit so ‘n
Ek is in gesprek met onderwysers by ander skole

On 30 April 2020, National Minister for Basic Education Angie Motshekga directed
that the education sector reopens on 4 May and that all office-based staff are to
return to work. It was also announced that SMT, non-teaching and cleaning staff
will return to schools on the 11th May, other teachers on the 18th and grade 12
learners on the 1st of June (a tentative date).

All the necessary health and safety measures, as advised by the Department of
Labour and Health, must be adhered to before this happens. They have also
asked that we must identify vulnerable individuals in our school to enable us to
consider how best to managed their safety. Reasonable consideration will be
given to individuals diagnosed with comorbidities – which include diabetes,
hypertension, HIV/AIDS, TB, chronic respiratory/pulmonary disease and dreaded
diseases such as cancer. Parents need to have proof of medical diagnosis and
send it via email to admin@hsoverberg.com

 twee wasbare materiaalgesigsmaskers vir elkeen;
afgelewer is;
 voorskote en handskoene vir skoonmakers; en
 ‘n maksimum van ses digitale termometers.

For the safety of our staff and learners, everyone will be screened before they
enter a bus or building every day. This is to ascertain whether any staff member
or learner have any of the observable symptoms associated with Covid-19. (See
symptoms elsewhere in the letter.) If anyone shows symptoms they will be sent
home and asked to contact the health authorities.

It is also my responsibility to make you aware of the following:
 The common symptoms of Covid-19 are fever, tiredness and dry cough.
Some people may experience aches and pains, nasal congestion, runny
nose, sore throat and/or diarrhea. On average it takes 5-6 days from when
someone is infected with the virus for symptoms to show, however it can
take up to 14 days. People with mild symptoms who are otherwise healthy
should self-isolate. Seek medical attention if you have a fever, a cough
and difficulty breathing.
 It is important to report any suspicious Covid-19 symptoms.
 Enforce good hygiene practices such as washing and sanitizing of hands,
coughing or sneezing into a tissue paper or bent elbow.
 Face masks must be washed daily.
 Transport children to school or arrange transportation in smaller groups.
 Discourage your child/children from playing or forming groupings.
 Provide a lunch pack where applicable to avoid them buying food from
vendors or queuing at the tuck shop.
 Ensure that the child leaves home with a provided sanitary bag and is
wearing a face mask.
 Collect the children immediately after school or ensure that the child is
transported home immediately.

 Die Skoolbestuurspan by name mnre.
 Deep cleaning of schools: The virus has a 72 hour life time and schools were
closed for a longer period. Normal cleaning will be enough at this stage,
but deep cleaning only applies if someone test positive. Protocols will be
send to schools in this matter.
bekragtig is nie.
 The staff will continue with planning and e-learning.
 ‘n Spesiale program rondom ons kinders se geestesgesondheid, sal in
samewerking met die WKOD, saamgestel word. U moet in gedagte hou
Nou lyk alles so onseker.
beplan.
 We will inform our parents if we receive any correspondence from the
WCED regarding adjustments in the curriculum / teaching and assessment
plans.

I know that our parents are concerned about the safety of their children. We will
do all we can to ensure that our school adhere to health and safety regulations –
this includes the social distancing of 1.5 m as well.

ons kinders, as plaasvervanger-onderwyser of in gebed.

(Johannes 8:12)
Ovie-groete.
